The winter meeting of KDM’s Marine Social and Cultural Sciences Strategy Group was held in November 2022 in my hometown of Bremen. My presentation “Algae Behind the Scenes: The Changing Role of Academics in the Context of Climate Change and Environmental Protection in the Mexican Caribbean” made visible the different roles researchers take on in the Anthropocene. In my presentation, I talked about responsibility for environmental change that extends beyond a discourse focused on issuing blame.
